Toronto, ON (January 7, 2026) – The Toronto Port Authority is pleased to announce that its President and Chief Executive Officer, Roelof-Jan (RJ) Steenstra, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA), the leading trade association representing commercial service airports across Canada and the United States. Mr. Steenstra is also a serving member of the ACI World General Assembly (WAGA) which represents all airports globally.

In his role as President and CEO of Toronto Port Authority, the owner and operator of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Mr. Steenstra brings decades of leadership experience in airport management, operations and industry advocacy, with a focus on regional aviation in Canada.

“Regional aviation in Canada and across North America is at a crossroads,” said Mr. Steenstra. “While the industry continues to navigate challenges such as labour shortages, infrastructure renewal and changing route networks, we also face tremendous opportunity, particularly through innovation and the emergence of electric aircraft. I look forward to working with ACI-North America’s Board to advance shared priorities, strengthen regional airports and support the passengers and airport workers who rely on them every day.”

Mr. Steenstra currently serves on the Boards of Destination Toronto, the Association of Canadian Port Authorities, the Canadian Airports Council and ACI World (Airports Council International), and is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Toronto Global Forum. In 2022, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his public service.

ACI-North America recently announced its new Board of Directors and officers, including Chair Cindy Nichol, Director of Airports for the Sacramento County Department of Airports, as part of its annual leadership transition.
